Surface Preparation Requirements for Fireproof Coating Application
Primer Application
Steel surfaces must be sandblasted and coated with a compatible anti-corrosion primer system. We recommend using the “Jinyu” brand epoxy zinc-rich primer + epoxy micaceous iron oxide intermediate coat for optimal adhesion.
The primer and intermediate coats must form a smooth, unbroken protective layer to completely seal the substrate. Failure to do so may lead to coating delamination and substrate corrosion.
Alternative Primer Compatibility
If using other primer types, compatibility testing must be conducted by qualified agencies or through on-site brush-out tests to ensure proper bonding with the fire intumescent paint.
Surface Restrictions
Never apply intumescent coating for steel directly onto:
✓ Unprimed steel surfaces
✓ Galvanized layersDirect application may cause coating failure and accelerated corrosion.
Pre-Application Inspection
Thoroughly inspect steel components for:
✓ Complete primer coverage
✓ Surface contaminants (dust, oil, etc.)
✓ Structural defects (cracks, poor welds)Proceed with fire resistant paint application only after passing inspection.
Application Guide
Mixing: Stir thoroughly; add ≤5% approved thinner if needed.

Apply in crosshatch layers (0.2mm dry film/layer).
Interval: 12+ hours between coats (adjust for temperature).
Environment:
Temperature: 15–30°C (limits: 5–35°C).
Humidity: ≤80%.
Curing: Requires 1-month curing post-application.
Storage & Transport
Store in dry, shaded areas (≥5°C).
Shelf life: 12 months.
Technicians spraying GT-WRP-FP-WCB coating onto LNG storage tank support structures, achieving 180-minute fire resistance (ISO 22899-1) for cryogenic steel components exposed to -162°C LNG leaks and potential pool fires in coastal terminals. Arctic engineers validating GT-WRP-FP-WCB coating performance at -50°C on research station steel frames, combining UL 2431 freeze-thaw durability with 120-minute fire rating (IBC 703.2) for dual protection against ice storms and polar vortex fire risks. Project Case: Velana International Airport Expansion, Maldives (2020-2021)
The Velana International Airport expansion project implemented SB-2, BTCB-1, and WCB fireproof coatings across terminal steel structures, achieving 180-minute fire resistance (ICAO Annex 14 standards) for critical load-bearing components in high-humidity coastal conditions. Our corrosion-resistant solutions withstood salt spray exposure while meeting both international aviation safety requirements and the Maldives’ stringent environmental regulations for island infrastructure.
Project Case: Sichuan Yongxiang Polysilicon Fireproof Coating Application
The Sichuan Yongxiang Polysilicon facility (2021) implemented WOB and STI-C fireproof coatings across 117 meters of critical steel structures in high-temperature production areas. Our solutions provided 120-minute fire resistance for silicon reactor supports, meeting GB 50016-2014 standards while withstanding corrosive chemical vapors unique to polysilicon manufacturing. This project demonstrates our expertise in safeguarding specialized industrial processes through tailored fire protection systems.
