A solvent-free epoxy floor coating is an epoxy system with no volatile carrier — the mixed product is close to 100% solids, so almost everything you apply stays on the floor as cured film. Nothing has to evaporate for the coating to set.
That single difference is what makes solvent-free systems the route for thick builds and heavy-duty floors. KAIDA PAINT® supplies six solvent-free epoxy products covering primer, mid-coat and top coat, including self-leveling and colored-sand finishes. This page covers what the technology is for, and what it asks of you on site.

Solvent-free (also called 100% solids, or high-solids) describes how much of the mixed product becomes film. Three consequences follow directly from it:
Solvent-free is not the same as water-based: water-based uses water as the carrier, solvent-free uses no carrier at all. The three routes — solvent-based, water-based and solvent-free — are compared on the epoxy floor coating overview page.
| Strato | Prodotto | Role |
|---|---|---|
| Primer | E811 Primer epossidico senza solventi | Seals the prepared slab and bonds the build coats |
| Primer and mid-coat in one | E811-2 Primer epossidico per pavimenti senza solventi Rivestimento intermedio | Combines the sealing and build stages into one operation |
| Mid-coat | E822 Vernice intermedia senza solventi | Adds film thickness without a volatile carrier |
| Top coat (self-leveling) | E8300 Finitura epossidica autolivellante per pavimenti | Seamless, high-gloss surface |
| Top coat (solvent-free self-leveling) | E8302 Finitura epossidica autolivellante per pavimenti senza solventi | Seamless finish on a fully solvent-free build |
| Top coat (colored sand) | E8308 Finitura autolivellante epossidica color sabbia | Decorative aggregate surface with good grip |
Thickness is how a resin floor carries load, resists abrasion and survives thermal shock. Building thickness with a solvent-borne system is possible but wasteful and less predictable, because the carrier that has to evaporate also has to escape through the film.
| If you need | Solvent-free gives you | A solvent-borne system gives you |
|---|---|---|
| Predictable film build | Wet film close to dry film — material calculated per millimetre | Applied volume shrinks as the carrier leaves; build has to be calculated from solids content |
| A single thick coat | Can be placed thick without dishing | Thick coats risk solvent entrapment and shrinkage |
| Low VOC on site | Very little volatile content released during cure | Highest VOC of the three routes |
| Penetration into a dense slab | Higher applied viscosity — less able to soak into a tight surface | Low viscosity solvent-borne primers penetrate tight, dense concrete better |
Scope: solvent-free epoxy suits indoor, ambient-temperature concrete floors where film build, low VOC or cleanliness is the driver.
Where the constraint is instead a tight, dense slab that has to be penetrated, or a floor in direct sunlight, a different product is the right answer — a solvent-based primer for penetration, and a polyurethane top coat where UV exposure is the issue.
In practice the terms are used interchangeably for floor coatings — near-zero volatile content, so almost all of the mixed product becomes film. Always confirm the actual solids figure and VOC in g/L on the product TDS rather than relying on the label.
Substrate moisture content must be at or below 8% at application, and a waterproof layer is required. Solvent-free has no carrier to evaporate, but it still will not allow moisture vapour to pass — residual slab moisture will push the coating off from below.
Because there is no solvent to dilute it, a kilogramme of solvent-free product delivers close to a kilogramme of cured film, while a solvent-borne product delivers only its solids fraction. Compare systems by cured film per unit area and per millimetre of build, not by pail price.
On most concrete floors, yes — E811 Solvent-free Epoxy Primer, or E811-2 where the primer and mid-coat stages are combined. Penetration into a dense slab is one thing a solvent-free primer does less well than a solvent-borne one, so on a tight, power-troweled slab tell us before we specify.
Solids content, VOC in g/L, film build and substrate requirements for each solvent-free epoxy product. Tell us the slab condition, the load and the cleanliness class, and we will recommend the build.
KAIDA PAINT® and JINYU PAINT® are brands of the same manufacturing group.
Epoxy resins, curing agents, pigments, fillers and solvents are sourced from established international chemical suppliers. Every incoming batch is inspected and released to production only after it passes the factory’s incoming-material check. Each batch record is filed so that a finished product can be traced back to the materials it was made from.
Formulations are developed and adjusted in the factory laboratory. Each production run is blended to a recorded formula with a fixed mixing ratio and mixing sequence, and the batch is checked for viscosity and gel time before it is released for filling. Formulations are tuned to specific performance targets – adhesion, chemical resistance, abrasion resistance or VOC content – rather than to a single generic specification.
Each batch is tested before packing. Testing covers the properties that determine how the coating performs on site – adhesion, abrasion resistance, hardness, gloss level and solids content – against the product’s technical data sheet. Test reports are issued per batch and can be supplied with the shipment.
Production runs on the factory’s coating lines, where the coatings are mixed in large batches and filled into pails or drums. Every container is labeled with the product code, batch number and production date, and the label carries the KAIDA PAINT® brand, so a delivered container can always be matched back to its batch record.
Color matching is carried out in-house against the factory’s standard color range. Where a project needs a specific shade, a color chip is prepared and submitted to the customer for written approval before production starts, so the delivered material matches what was approved.
Water-based and solvent-free systems are formulated to meet the VOC limits that apply in the destination market. The VOC content of each product is stated in g/L on its technical data sheet, so a specifier can check compliance against the regulation for their own project rather than relying on a general claim.
Technical support covers system selection, substrate assessment, application guidance and fault diagnosis – before, during and after delivery. Where a project requires it, application is carried out by installers, and the team that advised on the specification stays involved during application.
Orders are packed for export with the documents a project needs – technical data sheet, safety data sheet and batch test report. Packing and labeling are adjusted to the requirements of the destination market. Recent projects shipped from the factory include a 10,000 m² food plant floor in Venezuela, an industrial flooring project in Sweden, and a battery plant renovation in Hungary.
